Volkswagen always does a great job with Super Bowl commercials and they look to be continuing the trend in 2012. In a follow up to the Darth Vader commercial last year VW has created a very funny “fat racing dog” commercial for Super Bowl XLVI in 2012; the commercial is title “The Dog Strikes Back.” This commercial features a dog that cannot get through the doggie door to see the new VW Beetle so he/she starts training.
During its training session the dog drops a toy down the steps and then carries it back up the steps. To lose some weight the dog also walks on the treadmill and uses a balance ball for some aerobics. After giving up some treats, swimming in the pool and training very hard for a year the dog is able to sprint out the doggie door when the brand new red VW bug drives by. In an extended version of this commercial some of the Star Wars characters are watching the commercial and think it is funnier than the Darth Vader commercial last year.
Darth Vader uses his dark side powers to start to choke one of the characters from across the bar. After relenting the character keeps his mouth shut and everyone else is in awe. This might be a precursor to the Snaggletooth VW commercial that will also take place during the 2012 Super Bowl. It is going to be very fun to watch some of these attractions.
